Year 7 & 8

Year 7 is all about building friendships, resilience, developing positive personal relationships with peers and adults and developing one’s team work skills. Year 8 develops on these areas further with a focus on the individual student and how they learn best.

At Yea High School, we believe education is most effective when families are involved, when students are empowered and when relationships are strong between the student, family, school and community.

Subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health, Physical Education, LOTE (Chinese), Technologies (Agriculture, Woodwork, Art, Foods, Textiles).

Year 9

Year 9 at Yea High School offers students a real choice in the kind of high school education they want to experience. Our aim is to empower students to take charge of their learning in order to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve success beyond high school.

The Year 9 structure consists of three parts

  • Core studies
  • Advisory – ‘Deep learning’ projects which explore key areas of Science and Humanities.
  • Community Connections – consists of community projects, developing ‘work readiness skills’, shadow days and internships.

Subjects: Advisory, English, Mathematics, Health & Physical Education, Humanities, Technologies (Wood, Textiles, Food), The Arts (Graphic Communications, Media), Community Connections

Curriculum & Assessment Plan: Year 9

Year 10

Yea High School offers our Year 10 students a real choice in the kind of education they want to experience. Our aim is to empower students to take charge of their learning in order to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve success beyond high school.

The year consists of compulsory core subjects (including English, Mathematics and Health and Physical Education) and a choice of Technologies/The Arts, Advisory and/or VCE unit. Students also are able to select one of a VET course, internship/work placement, school based apprenticeship or a independent learning option (ie distance education unit).

VCE-VM

At Yea High School we are able to offer a wide range of VCE studies and VET programs, and to provide close, individual attention for our students through our small class sizes and extensive student support network. VCE-VM has become an integral part of the options that we are able to offer students.  We are fortunate in having well qualified staff experienced in providing academic and career guidance.  We take pride in our academic record, Yea exceeds the state average for students going from school to accept places at tertiary study or employment.
